Dear Hi-Temp,
I thought I’d provide some feedback on the solar water geyser that your JHB team installed in September, and how having it installed has benefited my wallet.
I had the system retro-fitted to the existing 200L geyser, and opted for the vacuated tube panels. Prior to the system, I was consuming about 890kWh per month. The tiered tariff structure at Ekurhuleni means the first 600kWh are R0.84 per unit. The next 100kWh are charged at R1.45 and above 700kWh the rate climbs to R4.00 per unit. This prompted me to invest in a solar water heater.
I am now consuming about 475kWh per month, without having changed anything else, which means I’m well below the 600kWh threshold. This means I can run my pool pump for longer, as I also had solar panels installed in December 2013 (aslo by your JHb team).
But what impresses me most, is that since September 9th, I’ve only had to use my element for 14 hours (on those rainy and completely overcast days). The water in the system peaks at about 65-70 degrees Celsius. The kids and wife have a bath at around 17:00, and there is sufficient water for 3 showers (1 at night for me) and two in the morning. The last shower at 07:00 shows as 36-40 degrees Celsius on the Waterwise control panel.
The true test will come in winter 2015, as I haven’t experienced the shorter, colder ambient temperature yet.
I would like to thank your team for the competitive pricing, and successful installation of both the solar water heater solutions (pool and geyser).
Regards,
