How Does It Work?

Make the most of your investment. With Hi Temp solar heating your pool can be used for eight months, or more, of the year. With Hi Temp SOLAR and energy from the sun, you can use your pool August through May.

Solar heating is now so affordable from Hi Temp, and still the value of your house escalates with this feature installed. The installation takes less than one day. No mess, no fuss, no people walking through your house.

How the Hi Temp System Works

Hi Temp Solar panels (made of durable and hard-wearing HDPE) are fitted to the roof. Water from the pool is channeled through the panels and is heated by the sun’s rays. The water is then returned to the pool by the existing pool pump.

With such an efficient system temperatures between 22º C and 41º C are achieved. This system not only absorbs heat directly from the sun, but absorbs heat by conduction from your roof. In effect, the roof becomes part of the solar system.

How the Hi Temp System is Installed
1
We measure the surface area of the pool(LxB) and divide by 3.6 and this will give us the number of panels required for your pool. This formula is used assuming the swimming pool average depth is 1.5m. Then we find a roof area that is within 15m of the pool pump and not more than 6m higher than the pump. We check that the area chosen, for the panels, has sun from at least 10am to 3pm.
2

Our technicians lay the panels on the roof or any other structure and secure panels with 2 coated wires per panel to the roof. The coated wire is secured to roof coping or pushed under the tiles and secured to batons / trusses. Once the panels are all secured in a line PVC glue is used to couple the panels with straight couplings.

3

Using 50mm SABS PVC pipe, we couple to return line of filtration system and run pipe to panels, glue to straight coupling of panel. We use the opposite corner for your return line to create cross feed through panels, preventing air locks.

4

We install a bypass valve, non return valve at the pump as per sketch. When the valve is shut the water is forced to take the longer route via the solar panels, when valve is open water follows the short route back to the pool.

5

We set the pool timer from 8.30am to 5pm for best results. If the pump runs at night it would cool the pool. We also include a comprehensive Hi Temp Pool Heating User Manual.

Please note that swimming pool water temperatures may vary from suburb to suburb and house to house. For example:- suburbs near the coast or in a wind belt generally require additional panels to achieve higher swimming pool water temperatures. Pool pump/filter sizes also effect the overall efficiency of your pool heating system. As a “rule of thumb” we recommend equal solar panel sqm to swimming pool sqm as well as a heat retention blanket.

FAQ’s
Why heat my pool?

When you bought your pool, it was for many reasons like having fun with the family, entertaining friends, exercise, those quiet relaxing moments or perhaps even for therapeutic reasons. I bet, you spent a lot of time making the decision to invest in a quality swimming pool, furniture, fencing and accompanying items that go along with a pool. With this kind of investment, you are expecting to get the most use out of your pool. If your pool is frequently too cold (22 degrees & below) swimming is extremely uncomfortable. You are not making full use of your investment. Hi-Temp solar pool heating can effectively double the length of your pool season, by extending it to between 8 to 10 months of the year.

Millions of people worldwide enjoy having a solar heated swimming pool. Heating swimming pools is today the largest use of solar energy in the world and there are good reasons for this.

Savings: The initial cost of a Hi-Temp Solar system for a pool or spa is about 35% of the use of a heat pump. Therefore savings are guaranteed with a solar heated pool.

Reliability and safety: Solar heating systems have no heat exchangers, that fail from corrosion, no fan motors or compressors to break down. no re-gassing, therefore no maintenance is required. Your investment in a solar heating system is protected by a 12-year warranty on leaking panels. Solar systems have been in use for many years. Hi-Temp Solar systems use no gas or electricity, they just keep heating your pool quietly, safely and reliably, year after year using your existing pool pump.

Protect the environment: You can enjoy the comfort of your solar heated pool, knowing that you are using an environmentally friendly energy source, while you conserve our natural resources.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Solar heat is FREE HEAT!

How well will the Hi-Temp Panels heat my pool?

If you follow our recommended number of panels, and have proper exposure to the sun (at least 10am to 3pm), your pool will be increase 6 to 12 degrees warmer than it was before you heated it, under the same weather conditions.

Because of evaporation of water from the surface of the pool, the cooling of the water occurs. Naturally the larger the solar collector area, the more of the sun’s energy is collected and transferred to the pool. Therefore, the larger the solar collector area is in relation to the surface area of the pool, the warmer the pool water will be.

Solar energy is just another fuel with which to heat your pool. A properly designed solar pool system can achieve the same results as other fuels. On days when you can relax comfortably in a bathing suit at poolside, but the water is too cold for swimming, solar energy can heat your pool to a temperature comfortable for swimming.

How much do the Solar Pool Panels weigh?

Sunseeker Panels:  Empty 6kg | with water 12kg
Sunseeker pro panels:  Empty 10kg | with water 16kg
*Above are approximate weights.

What are the monthly running costs to heat my pool with Hi-Temp Panels?

Solar energy is FREE, so there are no running costs!

Do the Hi-Temp Panels have to be North facing?

North facing is not necessary. The solar panels should be installed where the sun is on them from at least 10am to 3 pm each day. Depending on the angle of the mounting surface, east and west facing systems can function equally as well. Hi-Temp solar panels can be fitted on any roof, including a flat roof.

Will my pool pump be suitable?

80% of swimming pools have a pump rating of 0.75kW or 1.1kW installed. These pumps will effectively circulate your pool water through the solar panels with very little extra load. The specifications for the speck pumps are as follows:

0.45 kW- at 4m dynamic head, will pump 14.5 sq.m/hr of water
0.75 kW- at 9m dynamic head, will pump 14.5 sq.m/hr of water
1.1 kW- at 16m dynamic head, will pump 14.5 sq.m/hr of water
1.5 kW- at 22m dynamic head, will pump 14.5 sq.m/hr of water

How can I compare Hi-Temp Panels to Heat Pumps?

Heat pumps are basically an air conditioner in reverse. Electric heat pumps are generally three times the cost of a Hi Temp solar heating system. Electricity is needed to operate the unit, which could cost you between R180 and R500 per month depending on the make & model size. The unit also needs to be serviced annually. The main benefit is that it is not reliant on the weather therefore you can achieve a constant temperature throughout the year.

Why are the prices so low?

As we are a plastic manufacturing company, we are in a position to keep costs down. Every part off the Hi Temp Solar Panel is manufactured at our factory in Killarney Gardens. We extrude all the 7mm piping from Virgin HDPE which has 10% carbon black & UV stabilizer added, this ensures a long lifespan. The ‘rubber grommets’ are injection moulded using virgin Santoprene or Multibase G polymer. No materials used for manufacture are reground or second grade. Only the highest quality materials are used. Because of the fact that every part of the panel is manufactured on site and not bought out, we can better any price in the market place. Feel free to visit our factory and see the panels being manufactured.
